Lastly, I am going to investigate the mosque of Sultan Ahmed I from the perspective of Evliya Çelebi because the construction of this mosque is closer to his period, and at the same time it is a very remarkable monument for both the whole 17th century and its closeness to Hagia Sophia.Įvliya Çelebi Seyahatnamesi’nin kaynakları arasında yer alan sözlü kaynaklar bağlamındaki en önemli hiç kuşkusuz Dini konulardaki referanslarda görmek mümkündür. Thirdly, I would like to research about Evliya Çelebi’s narration of Süleymaniye Mosque because I think that the comparison of this mosque and Hagia Sophia from the eyes of Evliya Çelebi could be very fruitful in order to produce new interpretations about his perspective, aesthetic perception and political sensibilities. ![]() Secondly, I am going to mention his description of the Mosque of Mehmed II because of its symbolic meaning which is related to the conqueror image of Mehmed II. I chose this monument because I wonder about both the perception of Evliya Çelebi on the issue of Byzantine past, the historical heritage of the city, and also his representation of the monument. Within a brief framework about his representation of the city with the help of my secondary sources, I would like to more specifically evaluate four important religious buildings (mosques) of Istanbul from the eyes of Evliya Çelebi as parallel with his pattern of the architectural representation of the city. As we know although many of the descriptions of Seyâhatnâme were written in an exaggerated manner or as an inventive fiction in its some parts by Evliya Çelebi, his notes remain a useful guide to the culture and lifestyles of the 17th century Ottoman Empire. In this study Caucasus geography in Evliya Celebi’s Book of Travel’s, and people living on this geography will be examined. In his travel headed to Dagestan from Crimea in 1666, he gave detailed information about Nogai, Circassian and Dagestan peoples and cities. In his second travel to Georgia in 1647, he recorded detailed information about Georgians and Megrels. ![]() Firstly, he narrated Abkhaz clans in the part that he wrote this travel. ![]() ![]() His first Caucasus travel headed to Georgia and Megrelistan over Black Sea in 1640. Evliya Celebi recorded detailed information in his Book of Travels about people and geography of places that he visited in Caucasus regions, which starts from eastern shores of Black Sea. Containing his travels, Evliya Celebi’s ten-volume magnificent work conveys different aspects of cities in Ottoman Empire and its neighbor’s like history, geography, architecture, people’s origin, cloth, food, belief and language.
